I haven't posted here in over 2 months.
The last two days have been sort of crummy because the plumbing at my house got backed up. The plumbers said that I may have to replace the pipes that run from my house out to the main sewer line. That will cost some money to do.
Since Sunday, Jennifer and I have been slumming it downtown at the Stephen F Austin hotel. You know it's fancy because they don't have vending machines anywhere, and they charge you $3.50 for a can of coke out of the "minibar" in your room. Since we were already shelling out the big bucks for room and plumbing, we went out and drank beer instead. For 50 cents more, I'd totally choose beer over a soft drink.
But the plumbing is working again, and hopefully will continue to work for a few more years. And I have just finished disinfecting the entire bathroom. After the plumbing problems, it was important to get out the lysol and clorox.
Wheee!
What time period would you have lived in, if you could have lived at any time?
Hammertime.
I was feeling fine when I woke up, but by 3pm, I had a sore throat and was congested and felt like I was catching the flu. But last night was also the Smog show at Cactus Cafe, and I was determined to go.
So I went, and the show was great. The show was almost entirely the tracks from the newest album, a river ain't too much to love. Joanna Newsome played electric piano while Bill Callahan played guitar and sang. Awesome show. Awesome.
Then I tried to sleep last night, and I didn't do so well. I kept waking up with a screaming sore throat and feeling like I was going to suffocate. This is the first time I've felt sick since I bought the neti pot two years ago. Normally these things keep me down for a week or so, but I'm going to neti the shit out of my nose and gargle with the warm salt water until this is gone. I have a standing karaoke gig every sunday night, you know.
What's your favorite song to sing karaoke-style? If you don't have one, why not?
I have a lot of favorites, but right now they'd definitely include She's Like the Wind, No One is to Blame, El Paso, and Wildfire.
What was (or is) your favorite subject in school?
English
I was poking around online, and read how Segway is releasing a new model. I read about it, and I thought it might be worth getting one. I was making fun of them before, and now for no reason, I kinda crave one.
Maybe it's because Gob rode one on Arrested Development, and I love Gob. But at $6,000 or less, that would be a sweet ride for a guy with no car. Maybe I should just ride my bike, though, and save the money.
I do sort-of like the X2 model. It looks tough.
I could go offroading on my segway; ride to weekly meetings on it. Impress the neighborhood with it...
What was the first movie you remember seeing in a movie theater?
Question submitted by mainmor.
The Black Stallion
There is some dude here at the hotel. He checked in with his entourage today. He looks like Dr. Andrew Weil. He is wearing this solid black, long-sleeved, loose-fitting cotton or linen ensemble. He has people opening and closing doors for him. I was taking pictures tonight, and his bodyguards/entourage guys were eyeing me suspiciously.
Maybe he is famous? Maybe he is a drug runner? Maybe he is a Russian Orthodox monk? Do you know any large, older white men with longish hair and long beards who would be in Marfa? Maybe he is an artist?
An Artiste? One of the members of the entourage was carrying a cane for someone else. Or maybe it was a staff? Maybe he is a witch doctor? A spiritual healer? A warlock? He has a high-pitched voice and he giggles like a little girl.
Someone help me solve this mystery!
